An IPTV player for Apple TV

Kanema plays the IPTV subscription you already pay for on Apple TV. Add an M3U link or an Xtream Codes login and you get your live channels with a full TV guide, catch-up, and your provider’s films and series.

Coming soon to the App Store

Live TV on Apple TV: categories on the left, and the Cinema category’s channels on the right, each with what’s on now, its times and a bar showing how far in it is, lined up in one column, and what’s next.

Demo playlist: the films are Blender open movies (credits) and the channels are made up. Kanema comes with nothing to watch.

Set it up from your phone

Typing a long playlist address with a remote is slow, so you don’t have to. When you add a playlist, Apple TV shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone’s camera, fill in the page that opens, and the details go straight to the TV over your Wi-Fi. Any phone works, Kanema or not, and nothing passes through a server of ours.

Adding an Xtream login on Apple TV: the address, username and password fields on the right, and on the left a QR code with the code 4268 to fill them in from a phone instead. Beside the TV, an Apple TV 4K and its Siri Remote.

Live TV with the Siri Remote

Change channel with Up and Down on the Siri Remote. Channels sit in your provider’s categories, and you can favourite channels and whole categories, rename, hide, merge and reorder categories, and move any of them to the top.

Kanema keeps the last half hour of the channel you’re watching, so you can pause, go back over something you missed and return to live with one press.

Sintel paused on the Aurora Cinema channel on Apple TV, 34 seconds behind live, with a scrubber along the bottom and a hint: Left or Right to go back or forward, Play/Pause to carry on. Beside the TV, an Apple TV 4K and its Siri Remote.

The guide and catch-up

The TV guide puts every channel’s programmes on one grid, from your provider’s listings or a guide address you add. On channels your provider records, catch-up plays programmes that have already been shown.

Discover

Discover has its own place in the Apple TV sidebar. Film and series genres sit there as tiles, each showing posters from it and how many titles it holds, next to what your provider added lately and what rates best. Below them are the actors who appear most, and a page with every actor from A to Z. Search finds actors too.

All of it is worked out on the Apple TV from what your provider sends. Actors only appear when your provider lists the cast.

Discover on Apple TV: film genres as tiles of whole posters, Recently added with 11 titles, Animation with 5 and Science fiction with 1, then the series genres Animation and Comedy. Beside the TV, an Apple TV 4K and its Siri Remote.

Films and series

With an Xtream Codes login or your own Plex, Jellyfin or Emby server, films and series come with plots, artwork and running times. Each one picks up where you stopped, and as an episode ends the next one is offered with a ten-second countdown.

It doesn’t come with channels

Kanema plays the playlist you add from your own provider, and nothing else. Only add services you’re entitled to use.
