# Watching live TV on iPhone Duo

22 October 2026

To watch live TV on an iPhone Duo, add the M3U link or Xtream Codes login from your provider to Kanema, the same way you would on any iPhone. Closed, the Duo gets Kanema’s iPhone layout on its outer display. Open it and the inner display switches to the iPad layout with a sidebar, on the same page you were on. Stand it half open while a channel plays and the picture keeps one half, while the other shows what’s on now and lets you change channel without covering the picture. A channel playing full screen keeps playing while you fold. Kanema comes with no channels: it plays your own subscription.

Demo playlist: the films are Blender open movies ([credits](https://kanema.app/licences#films)) and the channels are made up. Kanema comes with nothing to watch.

## Setting up

The first time Kanema opens, it asks for a playlist. Choose the kind your provider gave you: an M3U or M3U8 link for live channels, or an Xtream Codes login, which brings live channels, your provider’s films and series, and catch-up where the provider keeps it. There’s no separate setup for the Duo. It’s the iPhone app, and it changes its layout as the screen changes.

## With the Duo closed

The outer display gets the tabs you’d see on any iPhone: Home, Live TV, Library, and Catch-up when your provider records channels. On the Duo they sit in the bar down the side of the display, next to Search and Settings. Kanema gives each button a name as well as a symbol, so anything the bar can’t fit appears by name in its overflow menu.

In the player, the programme’s title moves under the row of buttons when the narrow screen leaves no room beside them, so you can still read it.

## Opening it out

Unfold the Duo and Kanema switches to its iPad layout, with a sidebar of Live TV, the TV Guide, Starting soon, Films, Series, Discover, Favourites, Watch later and the rest. Live TV shows your categories and their channels side by side, so you can go from one category to the next with a single tap.

You stay where you were. Close it on Series and the Library tab opens with Series chosen. Close it on Favourites and Settings opens at Favourites, because that’s where the iPhone layout keeps it. The TV Guide has no tab on iPhone, so closing on it shows Live TV, and opening again goes back to the guide if you haven’t moved on.

## Standing it half open

Stand the Duo half open while a channel plays and Kanema splits the screen at the fold. The channel keeps one half to itself, with nothing over it. Held like a book, that’s the left half; stood like a laptop, it’s the half standing up.

The other half starts with the channel: its name and programme, Channels, AirPlay and Chromecast, and the controls, including Reload, the previous channel and the live buffer’s scrubber when you can pause and rewind. Below are On now, starting with the channels in the same category and then your favourites, and Starting soon, what begins in the next hour. Tap a channel and the picture changes channel; the list stays where it is for the next one.

Live TV, under the controls, opens your categories in the same half, favourites first, with a filter, and each category’s channels below. Films, Series and Discover open the rest of your library there too, and a film or episode you start takes the channel’s place in the picture half.

Lay the Duo flat or close it and the ordinary player comes back with the stream untouched. Stand it again and the browsing half returns at the top.

## Folding while something plays

The full-screen player sits above both layouts, so folding or unfolding doesn’t close it: the channel carries on. Closed, AirPlay, Chromecast and Channels sit in the column under the camera, beside the Duo’s bar, and the controls run across the full width.

Panels that rise from the bottom of the screen, like the playlist switcher, stay open through a fold and move to one side of it rather than straddling the crease.

## Multi-view

With Kanema Pro, Multi-view plays two or four channels at once. Closed, it covers the tabs, as the player does. Open, it’s a page in the sidebar with each channel’s name under its picture. The channels keep playing as you fold and unfold. If you were in full screen, the fold takes you back to the Multi-view page, still playing.

There’s more detail on [the iPhone Duo page](https://kanema.app/iphone-duo), and the rest of the iPhone app is covered in [IPTV on iPhone and iPad](https://kanema.app/blog/iptv-on-iphone-and-ipad).

## Questions

### Does Kanema work on iPhone Duo?

Yes. It uses the iPhone layout on the outer display and the iPad layout, with a sidebar, on the inner one, and keeps your place when you switch between them.

### What happens to the channel I’m watching when I fold the phone?

It keeps playing. The full-screen player stays on screen while Kanema swaps one layout for the other underneath it.

### Can I change channel without covering the picture?

Yes. Stand the Duo half open and the channel plays on one half while On now, Starting soon and your categories are on the other. Tap a channel there and the picture changes.

### Is Multi-view free on iPhone Duo?

No. Multi-view is part of Kanema Pro on every device that has it, the Duo included.

### Does Kanema come with channels?

No. Kanema plays the playlist you add from your own provider, and nothing else.

## Kanema doesn’t come with channels

Kanema plays the playlist you add from your own provider, and nothing else. Only add services you’re entitled to use.
